AN ADDRESS DELIVERED BY THE VICE-CHANCELLOR, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, OWERRI,
PROF. C.O.E. ONWULIRI ONWULIRI, KSJ, JP, ALOHA DURING THE BI-ANNUAL LECTURE SERIES 2, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION HELD AT THE NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS (N.I.I.A.), VICTORIA ISLAND, LAGOS ON THURSDAY OCTOBER 16, 2008
PROTOCOL
It is my honour and privilege to welcome highly placed Government Officials, Political Stalwarts, Eminent Scientists, Technocrats and Captains of Industry to this Bi-annual Lecture Series of FUTO Alumni Association.
I want to thank the President and members of FUTO Alumni Association for organizing this Bi-annual Lecture Series, which is a landmark celebration of our great Association. For me, this is particularly significant as it marks the second time I will be hosting, here in Lagos, distinguished and honourable men and women who are the cream of the society including members of FUTO Alumni Association.
The main theme of this Bi-annual lecture is
"Nigeria Quest for Development: The Technological Fast-Tracking". This is consistent with the Federal Government seven point agenda enunciated by His Excellency, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, President and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic Nigeria during his maiden speech in May 2007. The theme and sub-theme of this lecture offer lots of challenges and opportunities. I am optimistic that at the end of this Bi-annual Lecture meaningful solutions to our Technological problems would be proffered to move our Universities and the country forward.
The Alumni Association of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri currently has six (6) vibrant branches namely: Owerri, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Eket, Abuja and FUTO Alumni Association in Diaspora (FAAD). The other three (3) branches namely: Aba, Auchi and Warri are waiting inauguration.
