General Orientation
Undergraduate degree programmes in different disciplines have been designed to equip the graduates with adequate relevant theoretical knowledge, along with practical skills necessary for application. The graduates will be enabled to deal effectively with problems in the 'World of Work', and to be able to make technological innovations to accelerate the society's industrial growth. Specific programmes have been developed after careful consideration of present and future requirements of technological and scientific manpower in the country.
Degree Duration
All first degree programmes are normally of five (5) years' duration. The first year is spent in foundation year courses common to all programmes. Academic inputs consist of basic courses in natural, applied and social sciences, coupled with engineering drawing and workshop practice. Academic inputs in the second year consist of a combination of University and School common courses in science/engineering technology, along with General Studies, Engineering Drawing and Workshop Practice. From the Third year onwards, specific specialization courses are offered in each discipline. A good choice of elective courses are available to students in the fourth and fifth years of each programme.
ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTS AND PROGRAMS

COOPERATION AND LINKAGES
A cardinal focus of the administration of Prof. C.O.E. Onwuliri, is the sourcing of academic linkages in the areas of research, capacity building and exchange of staff and students as well as educational information etc. The current linkages are within the following institutions
Tennessee Technological University (TTU) USA
Northeast Normal University, Changchun, China
International Consortium / Partners for European Union, African, Carribean and Pacific (EU-ACP) Foundation for Ethical Leadership for Sustainable Development in Higher Education
Association of African Universities Database for Africa Theses and Dissertation
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, with FUTO hosting MIT's Open Course Ware
International Association for Exchange of Students for Technological Experience (IAEST)
Brandenburg Technical University, Cottbus, German
British Council / UK Prime Minister's Initiative (PMI)
International Agro-Forestry Research Organization (IAFRO)

The aims of mutually beneficial cooperation between FUTO and our collaborating institution has been to
improve facilities, encourage research in many fields including development of new products
and technologies in the institutions; and capacity building through inter-culture cross
fertilizations of ideas and experiences for national development.
CRITICAL AREAS THE UNIVERSITY NEEDS SUPPORT
Human resources capacity building
Improvement of information and communication technology (ICT) facilities, Internet connectivity and e-learning through the donation of ICT infrastructure/hardware and software.
Donations: for standard laboratory and equipment for teaching and research in Environmental Sciences and Engineering Technology, Materials Science Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Systems and Health Science and Technology.
Endowment for any programme in FUTO.
Other needs are: well test analysis software, Petrel Software, PV & T software using normalized pseudo-variables, scanning electron microscope, Interferential current instrument, UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer with reflectance attachments, X-ray Diffraction with PDF Database, four point probe, Hall probe, etc.
Establishment of Centers of Excellence in e.g. Water Resources/ Management, Environmental Science & Public Health.
